Core Analysis
At datalog we believe that quality of data produced is strongly dependent on samples quality, so it’s one of Datalog missions to ensure optimum core sample catching on site, logging, preservation, stabilization and safe transportation; well site core services
ROUTINE CORE ANALYSIS

Datalog understands operator’s needs for rapid and reliable routine core analysis data, datalog mission is providing academic precision routine core analysis data within commercial rapid turnaround timing; Routine Core Analysis Services include:
- Total and Spectral Core Gamma.
- Fluid Saturation by both retort and Dean-stark methods.
- Core Plugging, different sizes.
- Core Cleaning and drying by different methods.
- Helium Porosity, Nitrogen Permeability and Grain density measurements at both ambient and overburden conditions.
- Core photography under White and UV light.
- Core biscuit museum preparations.
- Core samples archiving and storage.
- Core analysis database management.
- Full package of Whole Core Analysis.
Spectral Core Gamma
Fluid Saturation
Datalog retort Fluid Saturation Systems can provide rapid turnaround of time data with capacity of running up to 40 samples concurrently. The Dean Stark method for determination of fluid saturations of core plugs depends upon distilling water from the sample. both oil & brine is removed by solvent extraction.
CT Scanning
Performed before a test on whole core to identify any sedimentary features influencing permeability and to determine plug orientation. Gives an indication of:
Core Plugging and Slabbing
Datalog Core Milling Machine is a high precision instrument for drilling core samples from whole core. The mill is capable of handling whole core lengths up to 6 inches in diameter and 1 meter in length. The core bit swivel is capable of containing a variety of coolant liquids such as water, base oil or liquid nitrogen. Datalog Slabbing Machine can deal with different types of Cores by adjusting ROC to cut either well or poorly consolidated Cores.
Permeability Measurement
Equipment used by Datalog Labs have the capability of measuring gas permeability at both ambient and Overburden conditions with Klinkenberg corrections measured and empirically calculated.
Sample Preparation
Plug cutting: remove rock flour Aims of sample cleaning and drying
- Remove possible artefacts created by the sample changing during a test due to flow of hot fluids by starting with “virgin” rock.
- Remove fluids, precipitates and contaminants.
- Preserve rock fabric and do not damage clays.
- Hot Soxhlet & hot drying can damage clays.
- Flow-through cleaning can cause fines migration.
- Use warm static continuous immersion and “cool” oven drying for the best combination of efficiency and not altering the core.
Core Drying
Datalog Labs use humidity Controlled Drying so as to preserve delicate clay minerals and clay bound water, other drying techniques are also available such as critical point drying and temperature controlled drying.
Positivity Measurement
Equipment used in porosity & Permeability measurements are designed, built and commissioned by Datalog R&D Engineers following API Standards and applying forefront data acquisition technologies. Both Grain Volume and Pore Volume are measured as direct application to Boyle’s Law, and Porosity is Calculated using Below Formula: Phi = (pv/bv) * 100 Where: pv = pore volume (bv-gv) gv = grain volume (bv-pv) bv = bulk volume (gv+pv)
Core samples Archiving and Storage
With Datalog Smart Storage Systems archiving cores are no longer of big Headache! With temperature and humidity controlled environment, long term core storage will have minimum effects on cores and therefore whenever a new technique of Advanced core analysis is required sample would still have it’s representative nature and ready for analysis.
